Hina Matsuri is celebrated every 3 March, when girls receive a gift of Hina Dolls, which are used to create a Hina ningyo, a composition of characters arranged on a stage to ensure a happy life for the girls. This piece, made in glazed porcelain, is notable because the characters have more child-like features. The details and preciosity in the execution of the kimonos reproduce with exactitude the costume worn by emperors in the Imperial court during the Heian period.
